DESCRIPTION This study-unit provides student-teachers with the opportunity to rethink and consolidate concepts and knowledge taught only in Business Studies at the secondary level. Such areas explored include aspects of marketing, human resources, business ethics, and skills for assisting learners in their SEC coursework. Most importantly, it explores a variety of differentiated teaching and pedagogical approaches that may be applied to support effective learning of the subject.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to:
- familiarise student-teachers with the topics that are taught only in Business Studies at the secondary level; and
- propose teaching approaches that can be incorporated into learning plans to be used in differentiated lessons aimed at involving all students, irrespective of their learning patterns and abilities.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit, the student will be able to:

- critically discuss business studies concepts and knowledge;
- spread content and knowledge into manageable learning activities;
- develop strategies which link the theoretical knowledge of the subject to real-life situations, thus ensuring that learners envisage the relevance of the subject;
- recognise the organisations which can be approached or mentioned to their learners, which may be of direct help to them in their potential entrepreneurial endeavours.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit, the student will be able to:

- construct lesson plans relating to a particular business studies topic which engage all learners in class by differentiating the content, process and learning product;
- propose ideas related to subject content that are directly relevant to the lives of the learners;
- envisage opportunities within the relevant areas where values can be imparted;
- appraise how students’ previous experiential baggage affects the understanding of a business studies topic.
